Spay Day USA --
Each February, D-SNiP sponsors a month of subsidized spay/neuter operations in honor of Spay Day USA, a national campaign of the Doris Day Animal Foundation to save lives of homeless animals through spaying and neutering.
From February 15 to March 31, 2006, D-SNiP helped fund 104 spay and neuter surgeries at Aspen Tree Animal Caring Center in Durango. In 2005, the owners of 70 local animals took advantage of this opportunity.
Since Spay Day USA's inception in 1995, more than 1.2 million cats, dogs and other animals have been spayed and neutered by the program, saving millions of animal lives and taxpayer dollars.
Last year, nearly 124,000 animals were spayed or neutered during Spay Day USA events nationwide. This year's goal was for 155,000 animals nationwide to be spayed or neutered.
Spaying or neutering is an act of love - for our pets, our community, and for the millions of helpless, homeless animals who need our help.
